I once had a studio engineer tell me 'If you are thinking about your monitors while mixing, you have the wrong monitors'. It took me until getting my Pulsar mkII's to understand what he meant. I don't think about my Ex-Machina's at all when I am mixing, because I don't have to. I trust them and they translate every time.
Ryan Fluff Bruce
Ryan "Fluff" Bruce built his reputation as a working guitarist before turning his full attention to the mixing desk, and that dual background shows in the range of records he has shaped recently. He mixed "Touch Dirt" for San Diego metalcore band The Undertaking!, a song inspired by the loss of a friend that the band called a spiritual follow-up to an earlier single. He also handled the mix and master on "Sweet Honey" for alt folk-rock artist Gigi Gold, a track released through Marshall Records that blends country warmth with dance-floor energy, and mixed "Cold Blooded" for Wake Me alongside Atreyu's Brandon Saller. His work with deathcore act Resider on "Death Adder" rounds out a catalog that moves easily between heavy and melodic material. Alongside these credits, Fluff has spent years teaching mixing and guitar tone through his Riffs, Beards & Gear channel and as a Nail The Mix instructor, passing along the same hands-on techniques he uses in his own sessions.
