“Ex Machina’s Quasar MKIIs give me time and phase-coherent information, so I’m never guessing. The coaxial point source keeps transients and imaging locked, and the bass response is true enough for moves as precise as 0.1 dB.”
About
Sam Kumar Tandon
Sam Kumar Tandon runs Rose Quartz Mastering out of San Diego, where he has mastered thousands of songs for artists spanning hip-hop, pop and beyond, including Paul Wall, Yvie Oddly, Plastique Tiara, Jelani Aryeh and THRONE. He got his start at 15, working at Legend Records in Pacific Beach before shifting into full-time production and mixing around 2017, and by 21 he had already mastered hundreds of tracks. In 2020 he turned that experience into a dedicated mastering facility, whose client list stretches to labels like Sony Music Entertainment Japan, Alcopop! Records and Victor Entertainment, plus placements tied to Paramount Plus, Peloton and RuPaul's Drag Race. Producer Richie Beretta, known for work with Beyoncé, Major Lazer and Diplo, has credited him with enhancing a mix while keeping the artist's original vision intact. Raised around Indian classical percussion training and years spent drumming and playing guitar in rock bands, Tandon brings that musician's instinct into a mastering suite built around careful acoustic treatment and a set of Ex Machina Quasar Mk II monitors.
