About
Mike Tierney
When Mike Tierney stepped up to accept the Best Engineered Album, Classical Grammy in February 2026 for Christopher Cerrone's "Don't Look Down" with Sandbox Percussion, it was the payoff of a partnership with the composer that stretches back over a decade of prior collaboration. He engineers and mixes out of Fieldnotes Studio, his own 650-square-foot room in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, while also teaching as adjunct faculty in NYU Steinhardt's Music Technology program. His credits range widely, from Steve Reich's string quartets recorded with the Mivos Quartet to Cassie Wieland's vocoder-laced debut LP as Vines, where he not only recorded and mixed but co-produced. Seven Grammy nominations and one win in, Tierney keeps splitting his time between his own space and studios around New York, working from a background as a composer and multi-instrumentalist that lets him meet each project on its own musical terms.
